This Noble of Monte Cristo, also styled as Le Comte de Mont Cristo, is a timeless quest tale written by French novelist Alexandre Dumas. The novel was first released in 1844 and has since turned one of the most beloved and enduring pieces of literature in the world. The Account The narrative starts in 1815, when Edmond Dantès, a youthful and successful trading sailor, is unjustly charged of treason by his adversaries and jailed for many years. Dantès is a kind and guiltless man who has many allies and supporters, including a lovely young woman named Mercédès and a affluent and prominent man named Monsieur de Morcerf. While in prison, Dantès befriends with an aged convict named Faria, who reveals with him the position of a concealed treasure on the island of Monte Cristo. After Faria’s passing, Dantès is able to escape from prison and sets out to locate the treasure. Dantès finds the treasure and uses it to establish a new persona for himself as the opulent and enigmatic Count of Mont Cristo. With his recent wealth and power, Monte Cristo sets out to exact revenge on those who wronged him, including his former friends and contacts who deceived him. Themes and Personages
