Formative Life and Profession La Roca’s initial life was characterized by a strong athletic background. His father, Rocky Johnson, and blood grandfather, “High Chief” Peter Maivia, were both pro wrestlers, and La Roca was exposed to the realm of wrestling from a young age. He played football and track and field in high school, and afterwards went to the University of Miami on a football scholarship. However, after being released from the Canadian Football League (CFL), La Roca shifted to competitive wrestling as a way to sustain himself.
